I really struggled with this one. I realize that illustrators on their blogs often talk about problems in a piece as a way to safeguard themselves from criticism. It’s sort of the way that actors in a play will rebuke themselves after a scene as a way to tell the director, “I’m doing the criticism for you.”
I got the call at around 4:30 Thursday night and uploaded it at 5:50 Friday evening. I have a habit of panicking if the deadline is tight and instead of taking time to prepare, I sort of go off half cocked. Stupidly, I used reference I grabbed from youtube screen caps instead of finding better resolution photos of the guy. YouTube screen caps can be kind of like witness protection photos at times.
The whole piece started to unravel at about 11 o’clock Friday morning. I started breathing easier at about 4 o’clock. In the end there are things I wish I had more time to fix, but you learn more with every assignment, and you learn a lot more if that assignment is due the next day. Another one down, Yeehaw!
